Irish holidaymakers in Spain and Portugal have been issued a warning as temperatures are set to soar to a sweltering 40C. The heatwave has prompted warnings from the Spanish State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) that the blistering weather will last for several days.
In Portugal, the nation’s Public Health dept in Lisbon is urging people to stay hydrated with water or unsweetened natural fruit juices to combat the extreme heat. They’ve cautioned expats, tourists and local residents against alcoholic drinks and direct sun exposure between the hours of 11am and 5pm.
