In its early May announcement of the regulation changes set for MotoGP in 2027 – where engines will reduce from 1000cc to 850cc for the first downsizing of power plants since 2007 – the Grand Prix Commission hinted at a need to reduce bike speeds in order to improve the safety of several of the current tracks used by the series.
Without it – with lap times being shredded year-on-year as the bikes go faster and faster – several of the sport’s signature venues faced extinction.
